- Enlightened Life:
Service, Devotion, Sacrifice, Discernment
There are a lot of different opinions about Enlightenment.
Some people declare their opinion with absolute certainty.
Some doubt that certainty is possible.
Some are certain that certainty is impossible.
But one thing is clear: that those who have never known Enlightenment - are almost certainly wrong!
Enlightenment does exist and it can be experienced in the form of the enlightened life.
There is a difference between the enlightened life and the "life touched by Enlightenment". The difference is related to the difference between permanent and temporary Enlightenment (as will be explained on Day 1 Instant Enlightenment vs. Permanent Enlightenment: The Transmission Comes Home.
The enlightened life is like having an inner sun powering your life 24 hours a day. In contrast, the "life touched by Enlightenment" is like taking the occasional sun-bath. You have some choice about where and when you sun-bathe but are limited by factors like cloud and night-time. In the enlightened life you cannot switch off the inner solar fire even if you wanted to.
Some people, perhaps in a vain attempt to find a suitable substitute for the word "Enlightenment" (I have not found one - suggestions welcome) talk about "total or absolute freedom". But Enlightenment in one sense is not absolute freedom, it is instead: absolute servitude.
This is not to suggest that unenlightenment is more desirable. The unenlightened state might contain more desires (a peculiarly Buddhist concept) but certainly it is not desirable place to be.
These issues have never been made clear to Western seekers, so they are unable to think clearly about them. History lesson: Since the 1960's, when Western hippies hit the road less travelled in large numbers (and typically the roach much travailed) in search of Eastern spiritual delicacies they were instead met by religious tourist agencies who employed men wearing long gray beards (like part-time Santa Claus salesmen) who fed these spiritual babies watered-down powdered-milk formulas. Like multi-nationals corporations selling Coca Cola, instead of promoting genuine breast-milk (fresh and on tap), what the Hippies go was NOT the Real Thing. Today's post-Hippie generation are now showing signs of wear and spiritual indigestion.
Bear with me, the satirical exercising of my wit, rarely even jogged around the dog park these days, will soon be over.
My advice: Instead of looking to the Buddhist tract merchants for intellectual enlightenment (with a small "e") concerning such crucially important matters, risking your limited time on Earth and squandering what hard earned karmic brownie points you have managed to accrue - you would be recommended to find an icon you have a better ability to understand. And by icons I mean The Icon Of Icon - The Heavyweight Ruler of the Spiritual World - Jesus Christ!
Okay, wit rant over. Back to the spiritual lecture with more somber tones.
If you can consider that Jesus might just have been powerfully enlightened (Is that really asking too much?) then can we really say that he was absolutely free? I don't think we can. We can say, though, that he was free to do the Will of God. Which, in case, you have not had the exhilaration of trying it is infinitely more exciting than bungy (bunjee) jumping, sky-diving or the latest Playstation toy.
The enlightened life is not the same as the ordinary (unenlightened) life. Some people are promoting the idea that the enlightened life is ordinary. On the outside the enlightened person might look ordinary but their life and inner world is very faraway from ordinary.
The idea that the enlightened life is ordinary is another belief. That belief, in all good faith, may be based upon someone having a real experience of temporary Enlightenment but it is based on a crippled version (limited model) of Enlightenment.
Permanent Enlightenment involves giving up everything so that Enlightenment, The Transmission, has space to live inside your life. Enlightenment is not a Sunday afternoon outing: short, sweet but over before Monday morning. Enlightenment is permanent. Enlightenment is for life.
The enlightened life has the following elements: Service, Devotion, Sacrifice, Discernment.
Does that sound like Enlightenment but not as we known it? This intensive you clear up the confusion and get you on the right track to Enlightenment and your life's purpose.
To register, contact OshanaOffice as soon as possible so that you can be emailed important orientation/preparation information.
